If you are looking for a unique and memorable experience, you might want to consider visiting Ngamba Chimp Island on Lake Victoria. This is a sanctuary for rescued and orphaned chimpanzees, where you can observe their natural behavior and learn more about their conservation. We hope you enjoy your one-day trip to Ngamba Chimp Island, starting and ending at the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre (UWEC) zoo in Entebbe. 3 Hours Before Flight Time
Morning:
 Take a guided tour of the UWEC zoo, which is home to various animals native to Uganda, such as lions, elephants, giraffes, rhinos, and more. You can also enjoy some interactive activities, such as feeding the giraffes or riding the camels.
Mid-Morning:
At approximately 10:00 am, we hop aboard a boat from the UWEC jetty and head to Ngamba Chimp Island, which is about 23 km away. The boat ride takes anywhere between 45 minutes to an hour and offers scenic views of Lake Victoria and its islands.
Upon arrival at Ngamba Chimp Island, you will be welcomed by the staff and given a brief orientation about the sanctuary and its history. You will also learn about the chimpanzees’ personalities, habits, and challenges.
You will have the opportunity to watch the first feeding session of the day, where the chimpanzees come to the edge of the forest to receive fruits and vegetables from the caregivers. You can observe their interactions and behaviors from a raised platform and take photos and videos as well.
After the feeding session, you can explore the island on foot or by bicycle as you enjoy the natural beauty and tranquility of the place. You can also visit the gift shop and buy some souvenirs or snacks.
Early Afternoon:
At about 12:30 pm, you will have lunch at the visitor center, where you can choose from a variety of dishes, including local and international cuisine. You can also relax and chat with the staff and other visitors.
At 1:30 pm, you will have another chance to watch the second feeding session of the day, where you can see more chimpanzees coming out of the forest. You can also ask questions to the caregivers and learn more about their work and challenges.
At 2:30 pm we say our goodbyes to Mankind’s closest cousin as you board the boat back to Entebbe, where you can enjoy the views of Lake Victoria again. You will arrive at UWEC jetty around 3:20 pm.
At UWEC zoo, you can spend some more time exploring the exhibits or participating in some activities. You can also visit the souvenir shop or have a snack at the cafeteria.
By 5:00 pm, your trip to Ngamba Chimp Island will come to an end. You can take a taxi or a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) back to your hotel or airport.
