Itinerary

Day 1Arrival and Exploration of Jinja

Embark on your journey in Jinja, Uganda’s second-largest city, famed as the birthplace of the Nile. Once you’ve checked into your lodging, enjoy a serene boat trip to the Nile’s source, a peaceful locale that has enchanted adventurers for ages. As dusk falls, immerse yourself in the vibrant local markets and indulge in the flavors of Busoga culinary delights at the birthplace of the famous Ugandan “Rolex”.

Day 2Coffee Culture & Sipi Falls

On the second day, the journey leads to the breathtaking Sipi Falls, located in the serene foothills of Mount Elgon. This natural wonder consists of three distinct waterfalls, each offering a unique view and experience. Visitors have the opportunity to take a guided trek, immersing themselves in the verdant beauty of the area. The adventure continues with a coffee tour, providing an insightful look into the local coffee cultivation practices. Participants will engage with the farmers, gaining knowledge of the intricate process from bean to cup, and the day concludes with the reward of a fresh brew, straight from its origin.

Day 3Bagisu Cultural immersion

Set off on an expedition to Mbale, cradled at the base of Mount Elgon, and delve into the profound cultural heritage of the Bagisu people. Visit the regional cultural hubs to delve deeper into their customs and traditions. Engage in the vibrant Imbalu ceremony, a significant rite of passage, and be captivated by the dynamic displays of Kadodi dance and afterwards embark on an African art & craft hunt, these crafts are not only a means of artistic expression but also play a role in the economy, providing employment and income for many artisans. They are a window into the soul of Eastern Uganda, offering insights into the region’s history, beliefs, and way of life. For those interested in exploring the rich tapestry of Eastern Uganda’s traditional crafts, there are numerous opportunities to witness these skills firsthand and purchase authentic pieces to support the local communities, the pieces are made from materials such as sisal, palm leaves, papyrus reeds, and elephant grass are intricately woven into mats, baskets, and hats. This craft is introduced to girls at a young age, ensuring the continuation of the tradition. (communities in Mbale also include Kalenjin, Sebei, Kipsigis, Atekerin, Swahili and others)

Day 4Indulging the Karamojong Culture

Immerse yourself in their community for the day, participating in their daily routines and gaining insight into their nomadic way of life. You shall get an insight on traditional Karamojong craft items including amulets, necklaces, beads, arm and leg ornaments, bracelets, rings, and headdresses. For instance, the Karimojong headdress is made from human hair felted with grease and clay, reinforced with a wire framework, and decorated with colorful patterns, such information shall give you a better understanding of the significance of African art and crafts in this beautiful part of Uganda.

Experience the essence of their culture at the Kraal with traditional cattle herding and culminate your day with a memorable evening around the campfire, exchanging stories and melodies.

Day 5 Ateker Museum and Nyero Rock Paintings - A Journey's Reflection

As the journey concludes, the Ateker Museum beckons, offering a window into the past while shedding light on the present day culminations of the Ateker communities of Uganda as well as the ancient Nyero Rock Paintings which are enigmatic artworks that serve as a testament to a rich archaeological heritage. Take a moment to absorb the cultural revelations of Eastern Uganda before you depart, the tapestry of vibrant traditions and memories now a part of your own story.
