Hospitable Africa Tours and Travel takes you to Uganda’s smallest savanna park for an amazing encounter with some of Africa’s famous wildlife. This particular package is excellent for family and friends who want to spend a weekend away from the noisy capital or any Guest interested in a wildlife filled adventure.
Lake Mburo National Park is home to various species of antelopes as we will witness. They thrive in the park because there are less predators here compared to other parks, this factor also makes walking safaris possible within the Park. Tourists are able to see hippos, crocodiles, warthogs, bush pigs, hyenas, waterbucks, Eland, Topis, reed bucks, vervet monkeys, side-striped jackals, white-tailed mongoose, otters, baboons and more than 300 species of birds. Lake Mburo National Park is perfect for spotting leopards and the chances of spotting these big cats are high in this area, it is also one of the best places for sport fishing in Uganda with 6 fish species (including tilapia) in the parks water bodies.
Day 1
Airport Pick-up and Transfer to Lake Mburo National Park
Our Guide/Driver will pick you up from the collection point agreed upon by the guest and the tour manager (this could be your hotel, airport or any other point agreed upon) for a brief city tour of Kampala and there after you will start the 4-hour journey to the Southern part of Uganda amidst spectacular
views of the Ugandan Country side, roadside fruit markets, endless hills that are cultivated using traditional African farming methods, nomadic pastoralists, massive banana plantations and roadside Roasted “nyama choma” vendors.
Remember to have your cameras ready as there will be plenty of photogenic moments of our road trip to our main destination that is Lake Mburo National Park. We shall stop over for Lunch in Mbarara city before we approach the park on a well maintained road passing through several stretches of papyrus
swamps, rain forests and several farms of the long horned Ankole cattle.
On reaching the park, (check-in and refreshment) you will be welcomed by the park staff who will be expecting you. You will be showed to your safari lodge accommodation that you will call home during your entire safari. After check-in, settling in and relaxation, the driver will take you for an initial game drive where you will see giraffes, Buffaloes, Bush babies, Zebras, Elands, Antelopes and many of the park animals along the Kigambira loop trail. This could be in the evening or afternoon.
Day 2
Game Drive and Boat Cruise
Wake up early enough for breakfast as you prepare for an early morning game drive along the Kazuma track. The Kazuma track offers amazing views of the park including the rolling hills and all the five lakes. The game drive will involve exploring the deeper parts of the park for encounters with Zebras, Eland,
Water bucks, Bush bucks, Warthogs, Impalas, Klipspringer and many other mammals. This morning game drive will allow you to spot the night creatures and predators like Hyenas, Leopards and Jackals before they disappear into the Lake Mburo wilderness.
After the game drive, we will take you on an afternoon boat ride where bird-lovers will be able to spot a variety of migratory bird species on the shores of the lake including the African fin foot, African grey hornbill, Brown Parrot, Common Scimitar bill, Crested Francolin, Fish eagles, Herons, Nubian Woodpecker, Papyrus bush strike, Pelicans, Shoe bill stork, Weaver birds, White winged warbler and Yellow breasted apalis.
Day 3
Nature Walk, Cultural visit and Transfer back to Kampala
This will be your last day in Lake Mburo National Park. Wake up to an early breakfast before heading for another exciting encounter with wildlife in the park.
The best place to go for a guided nature walk is at the salt lick area. This is where Zebras, Impalas and other park animals go to lick salt. A hidden wooden platform has been constructed where visitors can go and watch as park animals visit the salt mine. If you are not interested in the nature walk, you can opt to continue your adventure in the park using a quad bike, mountain bike or on horseback.
We shall then embark on a village walk that shall take us on a cultural visit to the Enyembwa center where you will encounter the local Ankole herdsmen with their unique long horned Ankole cows, The Ankole people are cattle keepers with most of their customs and traditions centered around their cows. On our visit to one of the homes, you will learn how to milk a cow and get a chance to guide the cattle to the grazing fields.
This shall be our final activity in the park and before we transfer you back to Entebbe International Airport via Kampala City although we will be a stop over at the Equator crossing to take photos as you stand
in different parts of the Planet Earth’s hemispheres as well as a second stop over at the Mpigi Royal Drum Makers where large ceremonial drums used by the people of Buganda Kingdom are hand made.
