The Mabamba Swamp beckons us with its verdant embrace, a haven for the avid bird enthusiast. Here, we embark on a Shoebill Boat Tour, gliding through the swamp’s intricate network of waterways. Early Morning:
Wake up to an early breakfast and start the day with an air of excitement as we transfer you to the unique Ngamba Chimpanzee Island sanctuary via boat cruise from the UWEC jetty as we glide over the calm waters towards the sanctuary of our closest relatives, the chimpanzees. Upon arrival, we were greeted by the sight of these magnificent creatures during their feeding time, which is one of the best times to observe Chimpanzee behaviors and interactions. This humbling experience shall remind you of the thin line that separates Mankind from Chimpanzees.
The island also offers more than just chimpanzees; You will see monitor lizards scuttled along the pathways coupled with the calls and chirps of various bird species, providing ample photographic opportunities for nature enthusiasts.
Early Afternoon:
After the enriching experience at Ngamba Island, we return to UWEC for a guided tour. The center’s commitment to wildlife conservation is evident in every exhibit we shall explore as we delve deeper into the world of Uganda’s fauna, discovering bird species that up until this point were just names in a field guide.
