American zoologist George Schaller, one of the first people to study mountain gorillas in the wild, once said: “No one who looks into the eyes of a gorilla, gentle and vulnerable, can remain unchanged.” Well, before having a close view of these gentle giants, this safari takes you across the tropical landscape with a lot of green, and a bit of savannah to the highlands of the southwest in an area called the “Switzerland of East Africa”. Here you encounter the mountain gorillas in their element.

Your guide will pick you up from your accommodation in Entebbe or Kampala to commence your drive to the UNESCO World Heritage Site which is Bwindi Impenetrable National Park. You can make a stop at the Equator Crossing at Kayabwe for some fun pictures and refreshments, or ignore that for when you return. You will continue your safari with a stop in Mbarara town for a quick lunch at your own cost. After lunch, you will continue onto Bwindi Impenetrable National Park/ Mgahinga Gorilla National Park. Where you safari to depends on where we have secured your gorilla permits. Once in Bwindi or Mgahinga, you will check in at Ride4AWoman or similar for dinner and your overnight stay.
You are up at 5:00 am to enjoy your breakfast. After your breakfast, be ready for the 2-hour drive to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park—arriving at 7:30 am. With packed lunch in your carry-on, your guide will deliver you to the park’s HQ before 8:00 am for registration and a briefing. The guides will then take you through the bush, pushing your way through the undergrowth, parting creepers, to track the gorillas. When you finally locate the family that you are tracking, sit in the forest among the gorillas, listening to them grumble to each other, and marvel at the sheer size of the dominant male—the silverback. It is an extraordinary feeling sitting in the dense forest in the knowledge you are in the presence of the few remaining mountain gorillas in the wild. After the mandatory 1 hour is up, you will be led back to the starting point where your guide will be waiting to commence the transfer to the picturesque Lake Bunyonyi. On arrival, check in at Overland Resort Bunyonyi.
You’ll be up early and enjoy your breakfast. At 8:00 am, check out and commence the 7-hour drive back to Kampala or Entebbe. You will make a lunch (at your own cost) stop en route either in Mbarara town or at the Equator crossing. After lunch, you will continue on to Kampala/ Entebbe. Where we drop you off depends on what your plans are! If you enjoyed lunch in Mbarara town, make the stop at the Equator crossing to buy some crafts. From here, your driver/guide will then complete your transfer to Kampala or the airport if you are checking in for your flight back home.
