3-Day Lake Bunyonyi Excursion

We will pick you up from Entebbe International Airport and drive you to Lake Bunyonyi, where you will check in at the African Tent Resort, a cozy and eco-friendly accommodation with stunning views of the lake. After lunch, we will take you on a boat tour of the islands starting with Bushara Island which is has a beautiful forest filled with indigenous trees before heading to the zoo on Kyahugye Island, The zoo is home to Zebra, Waterbuck, Antelopes, Donkeys and Da Brazza Monkeys. This segment of your tour will give you an insight to the history, culture and legends of these beautiful Islands. In the early afternoon, you will experience the calming effect of zip lining over the lake, complete with a panoramic view of the islands and the surrounding hills.

Early Morning

Wake up to the sound of birds and enjoy an early morning breakfast at the resort because by 6:00am we ought to be on our motorboat ride to Nyombe swamp, Lake Bunyonyi’s birdwatching paradise, and home to more than 200 bird species.

Expected spotting and Identification includes Great cormorant birds, Long-tailed cormorant Pelicans, African Jakana, King fisher birds, African pygmy goose, Marine fish eagles, Purple herons, Purple Swamp hen and possibly the common mohen, a migrant bird that is best spotted in September.

Mid-Morning

We continue by motor-boat and dock at the mainland, step ashore for a 20-minute hike to Kyevu which is home to a Batwa pygmy village, The Batwa are an indigenous tribe that lives in harmony with nature. You will learn about their culture, history and way of life. You will also see their folk dances, learn their hunting techniques, listen to their traditional songs and possibly secure some souvenir craft items made by the Batwa pygmy women. You will also have some free time to swim in the clear and fresh water of the lake or relax on the shore (Swimming here is recommended for expert swimmers since this is the second deepest lake in Africa after Lake Tanganyika).

Early Afternoon

We take you on a hike along the lake’s edge, where you will witness friendly locals go about their daily lives before we head back to The Africa Tent Resort where you shall soak in the views of the brilliant Sunset as it reflects on the tranquil waters of the beautiful lake Bunyonyi and have some much-needed relaxation and refreshment.

Early Morning

On your last day, you will have an early morning canoe ride on the lake where you will enjoy the sunrise and the calmness of the water as we head to the mainland and drive you to Bukoora Blacksmith village, for a visit to a traditional blacksmith workshop, where you will see how iron tools are made using ancient techniques, these guys are the real deal so take the opportunity to make an order for a customized iron item and receive your product (These guys can make a customized fork or spoon in a matter of minutes!).

Mid-Morning

We say our goodbyes to the traditional Blacksmith of Bukoora and head back to our Island retreat for relaxation and refreshment and afterwards take you to try your hand at cray fishing, (a traditional activity of the locals) and hopefully secure a handsome catch. We then canoe our way back to the resort to check-out, say our goodbyes to the friendly staff at African Tent Resort and head back to Entebbe with a lunch-stop at Igongo Culture Center and thereafter drive you to Victoria Rock Resort, a luxury hotel near Entebbe Airport, where you will check-in and spend your last night.

After having your Breakfast and Checking out of the Hotel, we shall transfer you to the Airport in time for your Departing flight home. Thank you for choosing us, we look forward to hosting you in Uganda, the Pearl of Africa.
