Day 2
Mid-Morning

Our Tour Guide will pick you up from your Hotel or from the designated meeting point to the location of our first activity which in Mengo Hill in Kampala where we shall a have an exclusive tour of the Kabaka’s Palace (Kabaka is translated as King and it is a title given to the ruler of Buganda Kingdom).

We shall have the privilege of exploring the Palace Compounds and be given a study tour of the area since many components of the Palace and its compounds are of specific Cultural significance with
different traditional rituals carried out in specific areas of the Palace. We shall also be taught many aspects of the Buganda Culture and norms including how a guest is supposed to behave while in Buganda.

The Palace compound is quite large and is sitted on several square miles and houses the Buganda Parliament and the office of the Kabaka. There is also a section of the Palace that was converted into a prison chamber by the infamous Idi Amin Dada who had forcibly occupied the Palace grounds during his tenure as President of Uganda.

Early Afternoon
Our next activity is a visit to the Kasubi Tombs where four of the past Buganda kings are laid to rest. This site is not your average cemetery in fact you wouldn’t know it is a burial ground for ancient African Kings until you are told by someone since it comprises of beautiful traditional buildings with distinct Traditional Architectural styles, as we move about at this magnificent site we shall be informed by the curators on the burial styles and techniques since it is common practice to give kings and rulers special burials in this part of the world.

Mid-Afternoon to Late Afternoon

We then head for our next activity which takes us to the National Mosque also known as the Gaddafi Mosque, a landmark that stands out in this city that has large Muslim population.

We shall take off our shoes as par Islamic tradition as we enter the magnificent Mosque, this will be an opportunity to practice your Arabic language skills as many Kampala Muslims are well conversant with the Arabic Language. Atop one of the mosque’s minarets you will have stunning views of Kampala City.

As we move about in Kampala you will notice that the city has a great Indian Influence as there are many Hindu temples like Krishna, Shree Ganesh among others.

The Indian Influence is Historical and early Buganda Kingdom records indicate that many southern Indians mainly from Goa in India settled in Kampala and some had no problem marrying the Baganda women unlike other Indians who were mainly interested in Trade and didn’t mix much with the Africans because of their Caste system and cultural prohibitions.

Kampala City is one of the few East African Cities where you will find many tribes from the Horn of Africa, the East African coast and from the Interior living and working side by side without any conflicts, this
is not a new phenomenon and has been the case for many centuries.

Earlier administrators of Buganda Kingdom allocated the Kisenyi suburb to Somali, Ethiopian and Indian Goa communities and collected taxes from these communities while the kingdom police Jointly with British Protectorate police enforced law and order,The Arab community and non-colonial Europeans were allocated the Old Kampala Suburb and were also subjected to tax.
