After arriving at Entebbe International Airport, you will be transferred to Kampala, the capital city of Uganda. Kampala is a vibrant and bustling city, with many attractions and activities to offer. You will check in to your hotel and have some time to rest and refresh. In the afternoon, you will visit the Independence Monument, a symbol of Uganda’s freedom from British colonial rule, depicting a woman holding up her child to the sky. You will also visit the Twekobe Palace, the former residence of the Kabaka and seat of power of the kings of Buganda, one of the oldest and largest kingdoms in Uganda. You will learn about the history and culture of the people of Buganda as well as the events that shaped Uganda’s politics and destiny. You will also see the Torture Chambers, built by dictator Idi Amin to imprison and execute his opponents.
After breakfast, you will drive to Jinja, a former capital of the British protectorate of Uganda and located at the source of the Nile River, the longest river in the world. You will visit the Speke Monument, a memorial to John Hanning Speke, the British explorer who discovered the source of the Nile in 1862. You will also visit the spot where Indian peace activist Mahatma Ghandi’s memorial monument before hoping aboard for a boat ride on the Nile, admiring the scenery and wildlife along the way. You will have lunch at a riverside restaurant and then proceed to your hotel for check-in and relaxation.
After breakfast, you will drive to Nyero, a town in the eastern Ugandan district of Kumi known for its natural beauty and historical significance. Once here, we will take you for a visit the Nyero Rock Paintings, ancient rock art dating back to before 1250 AD, depicting geometric shapes and animals in red pigment. You will learn about the origin and meaning of these paintings, as well as their significance to the local people. You will also visit the Sipi Falls, a series of three waterfalls on the slopes of Mount Elgon, offering stunning views and hiking opportunities.
After breakfast, you will drive to Soroti town, a place famous for its distinctive rock formations. You will visit the Soroti Rock, a massive granite outcrop that rises above the town, offering panoramic views of the surrounding landscape as well as views of Lake Kyoga and Mt. Elgon. You will also visit the Soroti Museum, which showcases the history and culture of the Teso people, one of the ethnic groups in Uganda.
After breakfast, you will drive to Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda’s largest and oldest national park, famous for its spectacular waterfall where the Nile River squeezes through a narrow gorge and plunges 43 meters transforming into a placid stream. You will check in to your lodge and have some time to relax. In the afternoon, you will enjoy a game drive in the park, where you can see animals such as elephants, lions, giraffes, buffaloes, antelopes, hyenas, leopards, and more.
After breakfast, you will enjoy a boating Safari on the Nile River, where you can see hippos, crocodiles, water birds, and other aquatic life. You will also get close to the base of Murchison Falls, where you can feel the power and spray of the water. You will then hike to the top of Murchison Falls, where you can see the river from a different perspective and take amazing photos. You will have lunch at a picnic site and then return to your lodge for relaxation.
After breakfast, you will drive to Hoima, a town in western Uganda known for its historical and cultural significance. You will visit the Hoima Cultural Village, where you can learn about the traditions and customs of the Bunyoro people, one of the ancient kingdoms in Uganda. You will also visit the Hoima Royal Palace, where you can see ancient relics and artifacts from the Bunyoro kingdom.
After breakfast, you will drive to Fort Portal, a town in western Uganda known for its scenic beauty and natural attractions. You will visit the Amabere Ga Nyinamwiru Caves, where you can see stalactites and stalagmites that resemble breasts, according to a local legend. You will also visit the Karambi Royal Tombs, where you can see the burial grounds of the kings of Toro, another ancient kingdom in Uganda.
After breakfast, you will drive back to Kampala, stopping en-route at the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, where you can pay tribute to the 32 young men who were killed for their Christian faith by King Mwanga II of Buganda in 1886. You will also visit the Gaddafi Mosque, the largest mosque in Uganda, built with a donation from the late Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. You will enjoy the stunning interior decor and the panoramic views of Kampala from the main minaret.
After breakfast, you will have some free time to explore Kampala at your own pace. You can visit the Uganda Museum, where you can see exhibits on Uganda’s history and culture, or the Kasubi Royal Tombs, where you can see the burial grounds of 4 of the kings of Buganda, you can also do some shopping at the Nakasero market or craft shops. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to Entebbe International Airport for your departure flight.
I learned about the culture and history of Uganda at the Uganda Museum in Kampala. I saw exhibits on traditional art, music, weapons, and costumes. I also watched a performance of traditional dances and I even danced to songs by local artists.
These are just some of the highlights of my 10-day exploration safari in Uganda. It was a trip of a lifetime that I will never forget. If you are looking for an adventure in Africa, I highly recommend Uganda as your destination. You won’t regret it!
