A visit to Uganda Wildlife Education Center

A Visit to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center

The Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC), also known as the Entebbe Zoo, is a conservation center that rescues and rehabilitates wildlife, educates the public, and supports research and conservation projects. It was founded in 1952 by the Colonial Government in Uganda, as a reception center for wild animals that were found as casualties (sick, injured, orphaned, confiscated from illegal trade etc). In the 1960s, it changed its role to a traditional zoo and introduced some non-indigenous species, such as bears and tigers, as attractions. In 1994, the UWEC Trust was established to take over the zoo and focus on conservation education. The center is home to over 200 animals, representing more than 50 species of mammals, birds, and reptiles.

If you are looking for a fun and educational way to spend a day in Entebbe, you should definitely check out the Uganda Wildlife Education Center (UWEC), also known as the Entebbe Zoo.
